On Oct. 14th, Joey started the first injection of PD1 from Merck. We had so much hope. He started to respond after two injections in 6 weeks. Scan showed mets in his neck shrank and those in tummy stable. Joey was scheduled for the next two injections. However, Joey's body was exhausted with so much disease in his tummy and his kidney shut down. The day before Thanksgiving, Joey passed away peacefully in Shands, Gainesville, Florida. In honor of Joey, Joey's parents set up a non-profit corporation called Joey's Wings For Rare Cancers In Children And Young Adults. Joey's Wings is committed to promote, support and fund grants for research into the rare cancers that afflict our children and adolescents. It is a charity organization seeking out and funding promising researchers and taking their findings from their laboratories into the clinic. The website is www.joeywings.org.
