Protect Alaska's Wolves and Bears
Protect Alaska's Wolves and Bears
The Issue
Last year, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS} proposed rules changes to forbid baiting, trapping and denning of bears and wolves in Alaska's national wildlife refuges. Alaska-wide public comment was solicited and provided; and most of it supported the proposed rules changes. More recently, Alaska representative Don Young introduced and successfully got passed in the House of Representatives Joint Resolution 69 to rescind the USFWS rules. His justification is to keep more moose and caribou available for hunters by killing the bears and wolves. Now the resolution will soon come before the Senate for confirmation (S.J. Res. 18). If these rules are rescinded, mass killings of these predators will result. Please contact your senators and let them know you oppose S.J. Res. 18.
