Megan Decker Oregon PUC: Waive the Smart Meter Opt-Out Fees in Southern Oregon
0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!
Residents of Jackson and Josephine Counties in Southern Oregon, who wish to opt-out from having their existing, fully functional analog electric meters replaced with the new smart meters being installed throughout the state, are being charged exorbitant fees. They are petitioning both Pacific Power, the local electric utility and the Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC) to waive these fees.
The upfront fee of $137 and the monthly reading fee of $36 represents an act of coercion, which constitutes extortion to thousands of loyal customers. By charging an additional $432 per year, Pacific Power is forcing many customers, who do not want the new smart meters, to accept them due to the additional expense. These are unjust penalties, and it is discrimination against low income households and to everyone wishing to keep their analog meter in order to avoid the well-documented health/safety hazards and privacy invasion associated with smart meters.
Please sign our petition and give people the freedom to say NO without being penalized. Thank you!
