We urgently need your support! On May 30, MCPS abruptly announced the closure of the Virtual Academy without consulting parents, teachers, or students. Then, on June 10, the Board of Education (BOE) voted on a budget that completely excluded funding for the MVA. The Virtual Academy is vital because it provides a flexible, supportive learning environment for students who thrive outside traditional classrooms, catering to those with medical needs, unique schedules, or specific learning preferences.
To have any chance of reversing this decision, we must rally together. Students, parents, teachers, staff, and all interested parties need to attend the final BOE meeting before the new budget cycle starts and make it clear that the sudden closure of the MVA is unacceptable. Demand that the BOE ask the County Council for supplemental funding to keep the MVA open. Your voices are crucial—let's stand together and make a difference!
