Let’s get the McVegan on U.S. menus!

Oct 11, 2017 — I just reopened our petition after the exciting news McDonald’s is testing the “McVegan.” A limited-release plant-based burger in Finland. It is a promising development and opens the drive-thru window to a meatless burger on American menus.

Since 2014, over 117,000 people joined together in calling for a healthy, meatless burger at McDonald’s. The burger giant largely ignored our petition, but they cannot afford to now.

In the wake of the Impossible Burger and Beyond Burger, American consumers are more eager for a plant-based burger than ever before.

According to Google, searches for “vegan” are up 33% from the previous year. Market research shows plant-based protein is projected to make up one-third of the protein market by 2054. And Generation Z, people born between 1995-2005, are more plant-based than generations prior.

Most importantly, though, is that research shows nearly HALF (48%) of 16-19-year-olds and 40% of 16-24's agree that a meat-free diet or one where we eat less meat is better for the environment as it lowers carbon emissions. These are vital consumers McDonald's should care about.

Other American fast food eateries, like Wendy’s and White Castle, already have vegan burgers on their menus. Considering the rising demand for plant-based options, it is just good business for McDonald’s to follow suit.

Please share and retweet to tell McDonald’s, American customers want a meatless burger for health, the environment, and animal welfare. Let’s get the McVegan on U.S. menus!
