Community Committee for Educational Equity
Nov 15, 2017
Congratulations to community advocates for equity in education !
I am delighted to report the results of last night’s MCCSC Board meeting:
Board members unanimously approved a motion to “select a review committee to possibly change the MCCSC Articles of Incorporation/Governing Plans.”
Jeannine Butler acknowledged that “board districts are out of whack” and she was in support of “evening out districts.”
Dr DeMuth will be in charge of appointing the review committee.
Sue Wanzer advocated for diverse representation on the committee, reflecting the community-generated advocacy that prompted appointment of a committee.
Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer also expressed strong support for community representation on the committee.
It is not clear yet what the timeline will be for appointing a committee, but presumably within the next month or so.
I highly recommend that community advocates maintain their involvement in this issue to help identify prospective committee members to suggest to Dr DeMuth.
NEXT: At the board’s Tuesday Dec 12 work session at 5:30 pm, they meet with a demographer to help advance the discussion.
The next MCCSC Board meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 6:00 pm.
Thank you so much for your collaboration and support to strengthen the governing body for our public schools!
