I submitted the petition to the PJ Mayor today. Thank you for all your support! This is a statement by BEBAS that I'm a part of -- a movement that promotes secularism and opposes discrimination. https://www.facebook.com/bebasmsia/posts/1948199335453355 BEBAS, a movement that promotes secularism and opposes discrimination, submitted today a petition to the Petaling Jaya Mayor Petaling Jaya City Council to approve the Oktoberfest festival at the 1 Utama shopping complex here. The online petition that was started last Thursday, which can be viewed here at https://www.change.org/p/mbpj-save-oktoberfest, has 2,682 signatures at the time of writing. We are Malaysians and we believe that Oktoberfest is very much in line with our celebratory culture of food and drink. In fact, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia's official opening was officiated by then-Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein. Our founding fathers clearly understood the importance of diversity and unity. If anyone does not wish to go for Oktoberfest, they are free to stay home. Protecting personal freedoms means citizens should be free to make their own decisions about what events to attend or what food/ drink to consume without State intervention. The #SaveOktoberfest petition was presented to PJ Mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain at his office by BEBAS co-founders Ms Boo Su-Lyn and Mr Azrul Mohd Khalib, witnessed by PJ councillor Mr Sean Oon and Oktoberfest organiser, CIA International Malaysia CEO Mr Ben Yap.
