Hello intrepid public fiber supporters. I hope you are having a good summer. Here is my latest article about what happened when I simply asked some questions of the COB Public Works Department and asked for a few documents related to fiber from the COB.

It is usually around this time that I am asked to tell you what candidates I support. The answer this year is NONE. I have learned the hard way that candidates from both major parties will promise a lot and then simply do nothing, or next to nothing, once elected. They have no problem with lying to your face.  
So I would simply say, hold whoever you vote for accountable. Don't believe the hype that the parties are truly different. Yes, on some social issues they say that they are, but their actions show us that they accomplish next to nothing for average citizens.
For example, there is a homeless community less than 50 ft. from a public fiber drop with dozens of users that need better service. Part of the reasons I requested these records, in the short term, was to hook them up to public fiber. Their current Comcast connection doesn't come close to meeting their needs, can't because it runs on obsolete technology, and costs over $300 per month. This is money they should be spending on food and repairs instead. Yet, the COB refuses to allow us to use the existing public fiber network, even for this. Even though we'd register as the provider, we'd dig the trenches, we'd do the support for free, and everything else necessary. All the COB has to do is give us a lease. But they won't because they don't actually care about us and that won't change as long as we keep electing the people the major parties recommend. 
So that's my 2 cents for this elections cycle. We need to admit to ourselves the truth. Both parties produce oligarchs that don't care about us 98% of the time. When they do produce someone that does care about us, like Bernie Sanders, they stab them in the back over and over again. The system is designed to waste our time and drive up the cost of our necessities. So, why not write in someone you know isn't awful. I'm going to write in my wife. She's pretty awesome and a genius. Imagine that, geniuses in power instead of what we have. Arthur C. Clarke does in the book "3001" by the way. Essentially, we focuses on electing pragmatic, honest, people who believe in logic, science, and the common good, instead of whoever is the most popular or shoved down our throats by the duopoly. We've tried doing it the other way long enough now to know that it doesn't work.
