As those of you who have followed this movement for a long time know, I will meet with anyone to talk about our needs as a community. I also have no party ties. I am disappointed with, and disgusted by, both of the major parties.  
So, since Simon's opponent Sharon Shewmake has made it clear that she "does not consider broadband to be in her wheelhouse" and that generally she doesn't want to be bothered about it, I met with Simon. I will highlight my meeting with Simon and then remind you of the meeting I had with Sharon years ago about the topic so you can compare the candidates.
Also, as you may remember, I've stopped endorsing candidates as every Corporate Democrat I endorsed lied to me to get endorsed, and then did nothing useful once they got into office. Most recently, Mayor Fleetwood even allowed an executive from a big telecom company to deliver a false report on our broadband situation to the City Council. A local paper even helped him pretend that the WAVE executive delivering the report was just another average person. Here's my article on that.

So no, Corporate Democrats who will call me up after this post and scream at me as usual, I am NOT endorsing Simon or anyone else. That ship has sailed. Endorsements are worthless.
My meeting with Simon:
Simon was good enough to meet with me early in the morning so I didn't have to take time out of my busy work and family schedule. 
He treated me like the professional I am, took notes, asked great questions, and listened intently, but our meeting was brief. We covered 3 major topics.

3. Not comparing Apples and Oranges. (aka. Pointing out that no other connection types are equivalent to fiber, period. That's not just my opinion, it's easy to verify with RRUL testing.) 
I also was able to get Simon to commit to reading "Fiber" by Susan Crawford. Although I literally handed out 7 copies on my own dime to our elected officials over the years, Sharon, Ken Bell, and the Shewmake Catel in general have not even bothered to read the book. The only exceptions I am aware of are Commissioner Deshmane, Gina Stark, Hannah Stone and Lisa Anderson. 
So, will Simon do the right thing? Well he and I both were able to name "red" exceptions that had better infrastructure that Whatcom County. For example, Bandon, OR has underground infrastructure because of high winds. Why? Because when you have high winds and the major cause of outages you see is from trees falling on your cables you put the cables underground. It's commonsense, not politics. Whatcom County's number one outage issues are also related to high winds and trees. So we also need to go underground, but our elected officials have made the issue political. So...
We also agree that infrastructure is very important from many standpoints, including social and economic standpoints.
My Meeting With Sharon 
Sharon ignored me for many years before she showed her true colors to me. I finally talked to her outside of BHS at a Democrats meeting where Pinky Vargas and other candidates were speaking. Man do I wish Pinky won, she really got public broadband. Anyway, Sharon took me outside, to a table out of view, and before I could even get to the 3 topics I listed above that I went over successfully with Simon, she started yelling at me and belittling me. 
Literally everything that came out of her mouth had been said by big telecom for decades. I tried to get words in edgewise on behalf of the community, but Sharon continued to mansplain my profession to me. She also made it clear that part of the reason she disliked me was because of the gender she believes I identify with. Which is discrimination. After about 5 minutes of her abuse I told her that she needed to, "calm down and stop treating me the way that she was. After all, we need to do what's best for everyone in our wonderful, diverse, community." This just made her angrier. A total of 9 minutes later, she stormed off and her assistant apologized to me for her behavior, adding that he actually agreed with me. The next week of my life was filled with Shewmake Cartel members calling me up and explaining to me why it was ok in their view that Sharon treated me, and many others, that way and that I needed to stop brining it up in public. Most of them yelled at me too.  
So what did happen when I recounted this story in public? Sharon simply pathologically lied about it and tried to say that the fact that I didn't tolerate her obvious abuse was proof that I was an authoritative male. So just so we're clear, if Sharon decides to abuse you, you are NOT allowed to stick up for yourself at all. You are supposed to take all of the abuse on behalf of... well her special interest donors apparently. Also, Sharon believes that her degree in Economics makes her an expert on literally every other topic, especially ones she doesn't understand.  
Recently, in my article linking Sharon to big telecom donors, Commissioner Deshmane responded on Sharon's behalf, reiterating that she still, "does not consider broadband in her wheelhouse." Now remember, this is post-pandemic, when the need for better connections was made crystal clear. Also, Sharon is having others respond on her behalf. At this point, her polticial machine is so large and well funded that Sharon doesn't say anything on her own. She only responds after lots of expensive coachings in the background from her campaign manger, and other Corporate Democrats.

After this article, the Shewmake Democrats went ballistic and pathologically lied in ways even I couldn't have imagined. Saying that, "Sharon doesn't take corporate money." Well Sharon says that she doesn't. However, in this article I look into the fact that she does. Not directly mind you, like the mafia Sharon has the good sense to launder her money, but the effect is the same. Sharon takes just as much money from big corporations as Simon does. Simon at least doesn't lie to you about it. If you ask him, as I did, he will tell you up front that he does. Does it make me happy that this entire election is being funded by big corporate interests? Of course not.

So, in closing, who should you vote for? I don't know everyone. Simon may or may not do the right thing, but at least he's thinking about it. Sharon has an awful track record with broadband and has just as many corporate ties as Simon. She has said time and time again that she doesn't care about it.
Anyway, the point of this post is just to give you some information to help you decide. Btw, the Shewmake Cartel has started to try and take down my posts and articles. How? They simply lie and threaten people as they always have. However, I have given you the tools you need in the articles to find out for yourselves. As always, I never ask you to just blindly believe me. I always give you a way to find out.
I really, really, wish the Dems. would have just given us a better candidate in this race.
