Good morning, I hope you are all well and staying healthy. After years of trying to get the city to adopt a reasonable policy for installing conduit and fiber, they responded a few days ago with a fake policy instead of taking it seriously. The person behind it, again, is public works director Eric Johnston. The details are in the article below. We need to demand our city and county develop proper Dig Once policies. We have, of course, provided them with a much better policy to use based on the Mount Vernon Conduit Ordinance and the South San Francisco Dig Once Policy. Eric totally ignored it with no explanation. Council Member Lilliquist provided them with a policy he likes called the Spring Hill Policy. They ignored it as well. Their goal seems to be to produce a useless policy. Why? So they can point at it and pretend like they're working on the issue. In fact, even in the face of the pandemic, they're still pretending like everything is fine and that they're giving our community everything it needs. The Public Works Commission is discussing Dig Once on Monday the 14th at 9am. As usual, the city is not allowing public commentary, even by experts, because we don't really have a democracy.
