Hello, I hope you are all well today. I am happy to report that our efforts have not gone entirely unnoticed. The council and mayor are looking into Dig Once. However, they are still afraid to ruffle the feathers of the well paid IT and Public Works Directors. This is especially sad since we've offered to show the council an abbreviated version of the Public Fiber Presentation I've shown to the mayor, presented around town, and even presented at Linuxfest. It is a single 36-minute presentation. The council will not even respond on this point and has been blocking it for years, so I am going to do the next best thing. I am going to prepare 12 3-minute speeches and go to 12 council meetings. I will read each speech until the 3-minute public comment timer runs out, and start where I left off the week after. It is sad that our government uses the 3-minute timer to pretend that they are listening to the public, but ultimately, this hampers our right to free speech, while they give the big telecoms exclusive access in the background to COB staff, publicly owned resources, and more while blocking the citizens that paid for them from using them, but it is what it is. So that's what I'll be doing. Please consider joining me at council meetings. You don't have to say anything, but it would be nice :). Still, just sitting in the audience with a "Dig Once Now" sign to show support would go a long way.
