Good morning everyone! I have or am in the process of, sending the following broadband pledge to our candidates. I will let you know who does and does not respond and in what way.
I _____________ recognize that broadband access is a necessity in the modern age and that fiber-optics are necessary to support public broadband access. A public fiber-optic network will help our community address social, economic, and environmental concerns, including the Digital Divide, and should be considered critical infrastructure now and in the future. I pledge to support and advocate for city and county policies including a Dig Once Policy, and the installation of comprehensive public fiber-optic infrastructure necessary for the greatest benefit to all of our citizens. I recognize that some providers have fallen short in providing real value to our citizens and are unlikely to ever do so, leaving us with the responsibility to do so as a community. These public fiber-optic resources should only be made available to companies who support public broadband access and are Net-Neutral.
