This article mostly speaks for itself. All I'll say is that Google and Verizon, highlighted in this article, can really be replaced with the name of any big telecom. Also, my personal beliefs on wireless aside in this update, since you have to run fiber to all of the wireless devices anyway then why not let people just hook up to the fiber if they want to as well? The way the COB, and other cities, are doing fiber only for big telecoms like AT&T, Verizon, etc. guarantees virtual monopolies, high prices, and low performance especially for the cost you're paying. Thanks again to the Port/PUD for representing the need for a real fiber solution on Monday night at a very biased TAG meeting, which seemed to be setup on behalf of the big telecoms. I am very thankful for the Port and look forward to TAG, hopefully, representing all of us in the near future. I think a repurposed TAG could be of great benefit to the community.
