Petition updateBellingham/Whatcom County Publicly Owned Fiber Optic Network"New" Inadequate COB Map Released

If you recall, in November the council directed Ted Carlson (our Public Works Director) to look into a Dig Once Policy. We were all very happy. On March 12th April Barker specifically asked about the status of it. The city even spent your money on software to help them map out the network and find the lost resources. This week, on the direction of the mayor, Ted, and at least one pro-big telecom council member. Public Works released this map designed to protect the big telecoms. In 6 months all they did was take the previously released map, and overlay it with the amount of coverage they think you're getting from private providers using the lowest standards possible. Their standard for that is half of what the standard for FREE connections in Canada is. It is the broadband equivalent of saying that you have a car since you have one on blocks in your yard that you can't afford to fix. If you remove the inadequate connections from this map, you can remove about 1 provider from each area. If you remove the overpriced ones at least another 1. If you remove the anti-net neutral connections then at least 1 or 2 more. Still, this map was designed for one purpose. To help the mayor and Ted Carlson protect their friends at the Big Anti-Net Neutral, Anti-First Amendment Telecoms so they can keep overcharging you and taking advantage of you. On Monday, they won't even put it to a vote. They are pretending that the council never gave them direction in the first place, even though their is video evidence of them doing so. So if the council tells them not to investigate Dig Once on Monday then they'll just stop. WITHOUT INPUT FROM THE PUBLIC AND WITHOUT A VOTE. Ted will also lie about the expense as he has in the past. Please, join me in standing up for real, ethical, internet choices on Monday. Here is the event. https://www.facebook.com/events/588536061516063/
