Petition updateBellingham/Whatcom County Publicly Owned Fiber Optic NetworkNet-Neutrality Still On The Chopping Block Even After Over 22 Million Supporters Wrote to the FCC

One of the biggest reasons I decided to work on getting Bellingham to expand it's Publicly Owned Fiber Optic Internet and allow us access to it, is that we simply don't have real choices in providers. Certainly not ethical ones. Sure, some people will tell you that most of us have choices between 2 providers, but when you do the numbers you really only have 1 and your connections are usually a joke especially when compared with other developed countries. You also pay about 10 times more for them than in other developed countries. Furthermore, most of these providers have been on the front lines of fighting Against Net-Neutrality which is a First Amendment Violation. These providers include, but are not limited to Century-Link, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T (aka most of the providers in Bellingham.) They continue to attack net-neutrality even when over 22 million Americans have told them, and the FCC, That They Like Net-Neutrality. So even if your friends don't care about any other aspect of this petition, please let them know that they should sign so that we can get some real choice in local providers in Bellingham that actually live in and care about our community. Right now we have virtual monopolies everywhere and virtually NO choice of ethical providers.
If you want to contact the FCC about net-neutrality I suggest, at this point, that you e-mail Ajit Pai directly at Ajit.Pai@fcc.gov since he seems to be ignoring the millions of petition signers and commenters that have used the suggested means of communication with him like the FCC comment form. Tell him that you support Title II Net-Neutrality like many of his coworkers in the FCC do that are disappointed with his leadership.
In the meantime, let's build a network in Bellingham that helps ensure that we never have to deal with the BS again.
