This petition has been very helpful! In a recent public letter between Michael Lilliquist, the mayor, and the rest of the city council, Michael has officially requested that the government assign staff to look into this. Still, we need to keep getting signatures until some actual work takes place. Governments investigate, and then don't act on, issues all of the time. In fact, the council and mayor seem to be ignoring Michael since he released the letter. This petition was named as one of the factors that has prompted his request. While this officially makes Michael our champion, we still need to support this as much as possible so it doesn't just get swept under the rug. The only private things on the horizon are unaffordable for most, and/or technically based on Cable TV services and contracts. Like CenturyLink's PRISM TV service. Since they are Cable TV services they can't be regulated at the local level, so forget about real broadband performance from them. We've all seen the result of using TV services for broadband with Comcast and CL over the years. We know that it is not a real solution. As you all know, our Community Broadband Solution is a real solution. It's a no-brainer for improving quality of life in Bellingham, growing our economy, and addressing social issues with guaranteed access. Thanks again for your support :).
(I have the full letter from Michael if anyone would like it.)
