Dear Folks,
With the leadership of commissioners Hardesty's and Eudaly and their staff, the CEIC has presented a modified proposal to incorporate some of the ideas from the Compassionate Change District proposal. See the message from the CCD below and consider signing their petition if you want to see compassion as part of the new district in the Central Eastside.
JANUARY 26 UPDATE:
The Compassionate Change District (CCD) Coalition is pleased to announce that instead of going to City Council on January 30th, the Central Eastside Industrial Council (CEIC) has presented a proposal for how we might merge our visions to build a Central Eastside that solves the problems we all share, arising from inequitable access to housing and city services. Our coalition partners bring to the table the knowledge, expertise, and experience needed for Portland’s Central Eastside to be an innovator, and take the path less traveled towards real solutions and community willingness that can be achieved only when all perspectives are valued, understood, and heard.
We believe the collaborative process upon which the CEIC has embarked with us can lead to a groundbreaking re-framing of how we build public safety and health for all. We are committed to working towards an equitable model that will serve as a beacon for our city, the West Coast and the nation.
Coalition organizations are carefully studying this counter-proposal and discussing with our communities. We will have more to announce in the coming days so please stay tuned.
