Within just a week, we hit more than 2500 signatories! Thank you all for your outreach. If we each convince ten more people to sign, the politicians will have to take our alternative vision for Portland seriously. In the meantime, many more people and organizations have endorsed the petition, including ACLU, Oregon, OJRC, Portland National Lawyers Guild, and Ibrahim Mubarak, founder of Right 2 Dream. The press continues to cover the issue and the petition, particularly the outrageous comments by Daryl Turner, police union chief, about Portland as a "cesspool." The key in this moment is that we must articulate a different version of Portland and an alternative way to respond to homelessness that actually helps solve the problem. Our current homelessness policy, which is addressed mainly by the police, is expensive, ineffective and cruel. Thank you for promoting. Please keep it up. Talk to your neighbors.
