Dear Neighbors,
I hope this email finds you well. It's July 2023, and it's disheartening to witness the state of our beloved city. It seems as though Oakland has given up on enforcing public safety laws, and the consequences are becoming increasingly apparent. The abrupt closure of Wood St. has only exacerbated the issue, leading to a dangerous game of whack-a-mole as homeless encampments pop up in different locations.
Furthermore, the alarming proliferation of RVs lining our streets throughout the city reflects a dire failure on the part of our elected officials to address this pressing issue. Our mayor, who once voted in favor of the policy we desperately need enforcement on, remains conspicuously silent.
But we cannot afford to give up hope or lose our resolve. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we come together as a community, organizing and fighting back against the complacency that has taken hold of our city.
I am writing this email to issue a rallying cry, a call to action that we must heed if we are to reclaim the safety and livability of our neighborhoods. It is time for us to unite, to raise our voices collectively, and to demand change from those who have the power to make a difference.
I urge each and every one of you to donate your time, energy, and resources towards our cause. It is through our collective efforts that we can effect meaningful change and hold our elected officials accountable. Here are a few ways you can contribute:
- Share this petition right now to your social media and email circles!
- Support NTO by chipping-in to support our organizing efforts.
- Contact our elected officials: Write letters, make phone calls, or schedule visits to the offices of our mayor and city council members. Let them know that we expect them to honor their commitment to public safety and enforce the policies they voted for. Together, we can hold them accountable.
In conclusion, our city may have faltered, but our community spirit remains strong. Together, we can overcome the challenges we face and reclaim our neighborhoods. Let's not allow apathy to define our city's future. Instead, let us stand united, resilient, and determined in the pursuit of a safer and more prosperous Oakland.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment. I look forward to fighting alongside each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Seneca Scott,
Neighbors Together Oakland
