Neighbors,
Last week’s devastating fire on Wood St. and the City of Oakland and CalTrans immediate response proves that we were right all along — offers of shelter beds are sufficient to close unsafe encampments under the Martin v. Boise decision.
This means that our lawsuit has a great chance of succeeding. Why has the city failed to take similar action to close down the unsafe, open-air drug zones encampments across Oakland? Why did it take a huge fire to force the City to finally implement our Encampment Management Policy the way it was intended?
This is why it is important that we make it to the discovery part of our lawsuit. We are back in court August 18th to determine if a judge will hear our arguments to demand the City implement our EMP.
Please consider chipping in to help with our legal and administration expenses. We are depending on neighbors like you to hold the City accountable, and we need your help today!
