For a city of millions of residents, workers, and visitors, Toronto woefully lacks accessible public washrooms in every neighbourhood. While implementation and maintenance of public facilities require budget considerations, the scarcity of public amenities results in significant health costs due to lack of hygiene and sanitation, which justify investing in washrooms. Furthermore, essential delivery workers suffer a financial burden when they must end their shifts early just to go home and use the toilet, due to insufficient public restrooms. Finally, the cities of Ottawa, Montreal, and St. Catherines have recently made significant investments in public washroom infrastructure. A world-class city like Toronto must do the same.
