Dear friends
Please know that I am working on this from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. My time is consumed with research, educating myself, reaching out to anyone who will listen, and the heart-skipping moments where I hold my breath, and search for recent news; dreading what I will find.......
This issue is so complex and I find myself overwhelmed much too often, more than I care to mention. But then I think of the birds, and I just shrug my emotions aside and tell myself " This can be done!", and I buckle down back to work.
There is so much that needs to be done apart form dealing with the immediate task of saving their lives immediately. We also need to provide solutions and alternatives to stop these tragic wastes of life from happening, time and time again. As the world becomes a harder place to live in for all creatures, we turn to blame anyone or anything we can, rather than ourselves. It is very difficult to look in the mirror, it seems. My job is made all the harder when these birds are demonized by the press. Please take a look at some of these news articles and check out some videos I found on Youtube (titles listed below) On my personal page I will share articles, videos and more informational days go by. Even if like me, you do not speak much Spanish, you will understand..
Some of these videos are from 2017 and 2018, this is a subject that keeps coming up in the Spanish press as those in charge try to gain public support. This is not the first cull and it will not be the last if we do not stand up for the lives of these parrots, Please keep sharing the petition to do that. The links that I had to these 3 videos don't seem to work anymore for some reason. There is no justifiable reason for these birds to be slaughtered. Nor is there evidence that they pose the threats as cited in many of these articles from the Spanish press.They do not spread disease, they do not pose valid threats to other species. Fear-mongering without providing actual science-based data, and using the power of the press to gain public opinion in order to carry out a mass slaughter, is unforgivable and deserves to be challenged.
