Update: Monday, 25 January 2021.
I looked into some of the details of our petition ‘Save North Shields Kittiwakes’ this morning, to find out a few facts. The petition ran from 9 to 20 January during which time signatures and comments could be added. It ended with 7,260 signatures. Of these roughly 6,342 were from the UK and the rest from abroad. Of the UK signatures around 900 to 1,000 were from Tyneside while the others arrived from the Isles of Scilly up to Orkney and included many parts of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. There were signatures from all over Europe. Other worldwide signatures came from the USA (over 200), Canada (50), Singapore (about 130) and many other countries including: New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Mexico, India, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, the Maldives, Brazil, Iran and even Russia.
We would like to thank you all very much for this support. The list of signatures runs to over 330 pages. Many insightful comments have also been added to the petition by supporters. These signatures and comments will likely be deposited with the local Council.
We have a meeting tomorrow to discuss the issue and hope for some outcome that will try to satisfy all parties, including the Kittiwakes.
Thanks again.
With Best Wishes from Daniel and the Kittiwakes of North Shields
