Dear all,
The decision about the fate of the factories has been deferred again by at last moment for at least one more month, giving the applicants yet more time to maneuver and lobby for their appalling plans to get accepted.
The factories now face *UNPRECEDENTED* opposition, when in the last week alone the Mayor of Tower Hamlets Mr. John Biggs and The Bobby Moore Academy have both joined our cause, and posted strong Objection Letters on the LLDC website (links below). This on top of the slew of objections already posted by institutions, politicians, developers, and private citizens.
This week, for the first time has also seen the landowners (Network Rail) issue their first official statement. In their letter (link below), they make a weak attempt to portray the project as a Freight Terminal project by almost entirely omitting to mention what these applications are actually about (building and operating 3 concrete factories and an asphalt one!). They also dismiss all the body of evidence we've worked hard at compiling and providing as well as everyone's objections as "fears rather than facts", yet fail to refute a single one of our claims.
Perhaps more concerning, is bullet five of the executive summary in which Network Rail seem to be demanding that committee members / decision makers show “less hostility” towards their plans, or else face consequences...I will let you be the judge of whether or not this constitutes ‘fair lobbying practice’. Our response letter can also be found in the link below.
And while Network Rail try to convince us that Concrete batching and asphalt manufacturing are actually healthy for us residents of East London and good for the environment, another dust cloud incident was recorded this week at London Concrete, the video of which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDcC8rolwTw
As we get more details on the final committee dates, we will post them in here.
If anyone is interested in coming with us to the LLDC offices in order to attend the actual meeting where the vote will be held please let us know at contact@opcrd.org
Sincerely,
Hanan
