In January of this year the temperature dipped drastically. Although there was some warning of how bad the weather would get, no action to protect our homeless neighbors existed until the end of the polar vortex. This petition requests that the shift in CATA rules be AUTOMATIC. CATA would go from a "no loitering" public structure to a "Warming Station" each and ever time the temperature is ten degrees Fahrenheit or less. This will allow immediate protection of all citizens and visitors of Lansing.

No harm can be done by this because, as always, anyone who is disruptive can be asked to leave. Protections are still in place. We do not need to fear the homeless, we need to fear that our homeless neighbors will die on our watch as we sit and do nothing.
