Petition updateSAVE Fort Dupont Ice Arena - #savethefortHere's How You can Help on Monday and Tuesday

On Tuesday, the Council is scheduled to vote on Councilmember Gray’s Disapproval Resolution. If the resolution passes the money for the rink will be saved. If it doesn’t pass the money for the new rink will be gone and most likely never return.

There are two opportunities to help. Both involve spending time in the Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave, NW) and letting the council know what’s at stake in preserving the new rink project. Neither requires any preparation and you don’t have to speak, your presence and the number of people we have carries the message.

On Monday, February 4 at 11:30AM rink supporters will meet FDIA Board Member Patrice Willoughby in the Pennsylvania Avenue lobby of the Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave, NW) and spend a few hours going to each councilmembers office seeking a meeting and asking for a commitment to support Vince Gray’s effort to SAVE THE RINK.

On Tuesday, February 5 at 10AM the new rink’s fate will be decided when the Council votes to reject the Mayor’s reprogramming of the money. If there are 100+ rink supporters in the room and, without saying a word, we all stand up when this item is introduced, it will have a huge impact on the vote. Councilmembers need to see the faces of Ft. Dupont and know that we are watching… and will remember… how they treat our kids. Again, it isn’t necessary to speak, just show up and sit (and stand). It may sound simple, but it is the most effective statement we can make: “We care so much about the kids we’re here for you to see us and for us to see how you vote."

The Council meets in room 500.

See you soon!
