How many of you had to dig yourselves out at least twice in the past few days? I know I did. I know my husband did. Actually my husband did 3 times so far. Once is enough! No one wants to wait until the plow trucks come through to start digging themselves out, because it’s more snow to dig out, let alone, the tough snow!
As the days go by, more and more people are out here in the streets digging their cars out for over an hour. It shouldn’t take us more than 30 minutes to shovel, but that’s not the case with major snow fall or with those with underlying health conditions and bad backs. I’ve witnessed a neighbor shovel his car out for an hour and a half, just to have to come back the next day to shovel again! I’ve witnessed my husband shovel my spot, his spot and two other spots for our sweet neighbors to park whenever they pleased, just to come back out the next day to do it alllll over again!
Some people like dibs and some people don’t, but when does it start to get out of hand? When people can’t find parking late at night or when they don’t want to take the time to shovel a spot out, again, or when they have children and can’t be outside. What do we do? We form a petition!
This petition will push for our Mayor and Commissioner to create a plan, even if it’s for the future, to designate time, like street cleaning, to completely clear our side streets, so that we won’t have to shovel again and again, so we won’t have to park further out in the streets, so we won’t get stuck, or even worse, throw our backs out! We need all of the support we can get from anyone. That anyone is you, your family and your friends. Let’s spread the word and be heard! Let’s allow our signatures to scream for us!
In the words of the Mayor and the town of Whoville, in Dr. Seuss’ “Horton Hears A Who”, WE ARE HERE! WE ARE HERE! WE ARE HERE!
