Gisele Anderson started this petition to Mayor Lightfoot

It is indisputable: climate change is real. Between melting ice caps, rising sea levels, and increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, our world is already facing the consequences and it will only get worse if we do not take action to protect our home. Climate change causes natural disasters and increases the risk of contracting water and food borne illnesses. In order to deter global warming, we must make drastic changes, and that begins in our own community. Signing this petition sends the message that the environment is a priority and that Chicago needs to do its part to protect the earth. In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that transportation produces, I propose reducing CTA fares to encourage more people to take public transportation and reduce the number of vehicles. I also suggest imposing a higher tax on gas to deter people from driving as much, and implementing more bike lanes and rental bike stands around the city. Transportation accounts for 28% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, so cutting down on transportation would have a major impact. Let's make the world sustainable for generations to come!
