In spite of a petition with over 5,200 signatures, scads of personal emails from citizens to the Parks Board, united opposition from 7 former Parks Board Members with 50 years of service covering a quarter of a century, and concerns raised from the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, the Parks Advisory Board passed in a 6-3 vote the North Cheyenne Cañon Master Plan. It was a truly shocking outcome given the widespread objections and concerns raised about that plan. It is not uncustomary for Master Plans to take years to be finalized; the pressure to pass this one is puzzling -- we are talking about conserving and protecting an historic park which does not seem to require such hasty, high pressured tactics.
Former County Commissioner, Jim Bensberg, will be holding a press conference on May 17th, Thursday morning, at 11am as he hand delivers an Appeal of the North Cheyenne Cañon Master Plan signed by several concerned citizens including former Parks Advisory Board members. This will take place at the City Clerk's office in the City Administration building -- 30 South Nevada Avenue (corner of Nevada and Colorado).
The Appeal requests a formal, public hearing by City Council to review the vague, gargantuan plan and remove specific items which were found to be most objectionable. Several members of the press and the public will be in attendance. We encourage everyone to attend and continue to stand up for what is right.
