We Demand that Mayor John Biggs writes to Ofsted that Hijab-Wearing Muslim Schoolgirls are Not Interrogated

DEMAND: Mayor John Biggs to ensure that Tower Hamlets’ Primary Schools do not agree to quiz MUSLIM GIRLS ABOUT WEARING HIJAB.

On Sunday 19th November, OFSTED Chief Inspector of Schools, Amanda Spielman, announced that OFSTED will question hijab-wearing Muslim schoolgirls.

This will undoubtedly single out a certain group of children in school, making Muslim children feel targeted and open to potential bullying, in addition to infringing their human rights.

We demand:

Mayor Biggs writes to OFSTED to question that if the issue is sexualisation through modesty, then would this apply to dress codes of modesty?

Mayor Biggs writes to OFSTED to consult widely with the national Muslim community, including major Muslim organisations, before making this move?

Mayor Biggs must write to OFSTED to question whether they considered the impact on Muslim girls for being singled out, especially in an era of rising Islamophobia?

Mayor Biggs to write to OFSTED to retract the recommendation for inspectors to question Muslim girls about why they wear hijab.
