MEMPHIANS STAND AGAINST TRUMP'S ENDORSEMENT OF POLICE BRUTALITY & DENOUNCE "ICE" RAIDS
The Issue
The people of Memphis and Shelby County have heard the phrase "community policing" tossed around by SEVERAL prominent political figures over the past few years. We have also observed those leaders be silent over the past few days as we've seen (basically) illegal raids by #ICE and heard loud and clear the 45 President's public endorsement of police brutality.
Therefore, we are requesting that Mayor Jim Strickland, County Mayor Mark Luttrell, Sheriff Bill Oldham, DA Amy Weirich, and Director Mike Rallings PUBLICLY denounce the President's PUBLIC endorsement of police brutality.
We also want a definitive statement on the Memphis Police Department's and the Shelby County DA's Office's involvement (or lack thereof) with the recent #ICE raids.
Simply put, we CANNOT have the violation of human/civil rights by law enforcement and still claim commitment to community policing.
And, be clear, our immigrant brothers and sisters ARE part of OUR community. Or else, we're not the "welcoming and diverse" city we are proclaiming to be.
Please sign this petition and share if you're in support of this request.
Thanks!
