Ziggy our poster pup remains at OCAS .. thinking of adding a pet to your home please adopt. Look at the animals at OCAS or Local rescues that pull last change dogs from shelters.

We have reached over 3 thousand signatures. But we need more. Please continue to share and report the petition link. http://chng.it/pLHx4zp7

First I want to let everyone know that Mayor Demings, Commissioner Bonilla, Commissioner Uribe and Commissioner Wilson for addressing the multiple issues surrounding the new state-of-the-art Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) shelter.   I believe the petition had allot to do with this being addressed.

It is my as well as all animal lovers hope that this project will not be brushed under the rug again.  The situation at OCAS has been a topic of conversation since the University of Florida – Maddies’s Shelter Medicine Program’s assessment in 2010. The author of that report has offered to evaluate the highlighted areas of concerns again free of charge. We need to ask Orange County leadership why this offer has not been accepted?

One of the highlighted areas of concern was OCAS euthanasia policy. A OCAS Volunteers in 2021 reported that some of the dogs and cats are put down via “heart stick” intracardiac lethal injection. When the volunteer spoke to the vet they said this method results in a barbaric, horrific death. There are images in the assessment of dead "euthanized" dog on the floor as they bring alive dogs into the room to be put down. How is this humane?

Bryon Brooks (County Administrative Officer) confirmed that the budget was first discussed in 2016 with a five (5) year plan to completion. Karla Ray did a news report on OCAS and posted a photo of the shelter temperature at 100 degrees. County leaders nixed a plan to add air conditioners to the 30 year old building. It would be to expensive to retrofit an A/C unit. Per Bryon Brooks a ventilation system i.e., fans were added to the shelter. However, he admitted the fans only lower the temperature a few degrees. So the dogs at OCAS are still experiencing sever heat temperatures.  The Humane Society states “Pets respond differently to heat than humans do. (Dogs, for instance, sweat primarily through their feet.) And fans don’t cool off pets as effectively as the do people.”

As I am sure you can see why animal lovers are a bit upset and baffled, and want to know how we can get immediate help to OCAS animals. A new shelter in five (5) years is a great plan. But the new shelter discussions started in 2016 almost 6 years ago. There needs to be an immediate action to help these animals. We will continue to be the voice for the voiceless animals at OCAS

As part of my updates I will feature a local rescue that is stepping up and helping the last change dogs at OCAS.

This week we are featuring ✨⭐️Pittie Party of Central Florida ⭐️✨ Thank you for saving Kaito's life (picture used on update)

About the rescue We are a foster based Pit Bull rescue and work all over Florida State. We do not have a kennel facility that houses dogs. We schedule meet and greets with potential fosters and adopters. Our rescue is funded 100% from community donations. Which means without you we can’t do what we do. In order for us to be successful in saving these precious souls, we need people like you who can donate, share our posts, foster/adopt and get others to do the same. Most of our work is centered on the euthanasia cases in Central Florida county shelters. We do not work with fosters or adopters out of state. We do not do adoption events. Our rescue utilizes social media to advertise our adoptable dogs. Upon approval, we schedule meet and greets with adoption candidates. We fully fund our fosters with ongoing supplies and expenses. Adoption is free to approved candidates, but we do ask our adopters to make a donation of their choice, to help our rescue.
