To everyone on the Sunny Coast and all who care. There is a petition now circulating that pretends to be doing something good when in fact it is just a bunch of selfish residents wanting to destroy the small amount of vegetation that is at Shelly Beach so they have better views. DO NOT SIGN THIS PETITION. Please read details below BEWARE: DO NOT SIGN THE PETITION ( ON CHANGE.ORG) TITLED: - "Council to Remove Pest Plants and to Enrichment Plant Shelly Beach Dunes with Natives." Reasons why you should NOT sign it: The proponents have recently tried and failed to have vegetation removed to improve the views of a few houses. Now, this new reason for tree removal is to "protect" nesting turtles! Cotton wood trees are native plants and have not adversely affected turtle nesting as stated in this petition. In fact, cotton wood trees provide dune stability, and valuable protection from artificial light. Housing lights disorientates hatchlings and deters laying turtles. Please share this post widely and email/phone Sunshine Coast Council and your local member to express your concerns. Many thanks for your support
