Removal of Clarksburg, WV's Statue of Stonewall Jackson

Dear Mayor Goings and Harrison County Commission ,

Please represent Clarksburg, WV by taking a stand against white supremacy and the recent terrorist attacks in Charlottesville, VA.

As you know, outside of the Clarksburg courthouse sits a statue of Stonewall Jackson. Although Stonewall Jackson was born in Clarksburg, I feel that his fighting on behalf of the confederacy is not something that Clarksburg, or residents, should take pride in.

I'm sure you've seen recent headlines that Stonewall Jackson statues may soon be removed from Richmond, VA. His great- great- grandsons even released an open letter today in hopes that Richmond, VA would REMOVE the statues of their great-great- grandfather because they denounce the confederacy and white supremacy that he fought for during the Civil War.

I believe it is in Clarksburg's best interest, especially since our state was born from wanting to separate from the confederacy, that we remove the statue of Stonewall Jackson.

We are a beautiful city that has so much more to be proud of than a confederate general that owned slaves. Please stand against the hate and bigotry eroding our country, by first removing the statue of Stonewall Jackson that represents exactly that!
