Happy New Year! We hope that everyone had a great holiday. Thanks for all of your support in 2015 to save our beloved San Mateo Ice Rink. We look forward to your continued action in 2016 to thwart SPI's plans to demolish the rink and then get the rink back open. Despite its failure at the recent Planning Commission meeting, SPI is still pushing its proposal forward to the City Council. Apparently, they still believe that they have a good shot at the Council accepting their $3 million offer for the $15 million ice rink. We will need to be vigilant to make sure that the Council realizes that this is not what the community wants. Please save the date - the City Council is scheduled to consider SPI's proposal on Monday, March 7, 2016. We will need an even bigger showing at this meeting as the Council will ultimately decide the rink's fate. In the meantime, PLEASE make a donation to our legal defense fund. We need to bolster our reserves in order to respond to the arguments of SPI's high priced legal team. At the most recent Planning Commission meeting, you probably noticed several attorneys in SPI"s row. We estimate that SPI spent $10,000 in legal fees just for their attorneys to fly in and attend this meeting. Of course, this is in addition to the much larger amount that they have spent developing their presentations and legal strategies. Please donate $200 or whatever you can.
