Petition updateMayor David Lim and the City of San Mateo, Please Don't Take Away Our Ice RinkAnother article in today's paper - Please comment

Thanks to all of you who commented on the article in the Daily Journal earlier this week. We had over 50 comments - more than I have ever seen for an article in the Journal! This will ensure that the newspaper covers our story and the City Council hears our voice.
We need your comments in another story today. Jon Mays, the editor of the San Mateo Daily Journal has suggested that a new ice rink be constructed within the Hillsdale Mall. While we should appreciate Mr. Mays' creativity, we don't want to divert attention from the easiest and lowest cost means for getting kids skating again - reopen the Bridgepointe rink and do not approve any changes to the current zoning.
Please make a comment at the bottom of the attached article. Please keep your comments respectful of Mr. Mays' intentions and thank him for his coverage of our plight, but feel free to address the following:
- We already have a fully built rink that could be opened within weeks at no cost.
- The City Council should not agree to any changes in zoning unless a new rink has already been constructed. We cannot rely on uncertain proposals.
- SPI should be responsible for the cost of constructing a new rink. The burden should not be put on another developer or on taxpayers. SPI bought the shopping mall with full knowledge of its zoning. SPI is responsible for ensuring the continuity of the recreational amenity.
Thanks for your continued support of the rink.
Sincerely,
Mike Swire & the Committee to Save the San Mateo Ice Rink
