Dear Animal friends,

Last week we met Els Sterckx in the Flemish parliament. She is a member of the Commission Animal Welfare and is basically the only politician in Belgium who actually cares about animals, animal welfare and animal rights. She has submitted countless proposals since 2019 to improve animal welfare, but Minister Ben Weyts sees no need whatsoever to change anything about his failing policies, which legalize pet theft and animal abuse and which protect criminals that harm animals. People who don't have the means to spend thousands of euros on a lawyer, simply loose their beloved pet forever due to the database dogID and due to the absence of enforcement of existing legislation.

We took Maya with us so Els Sterckx could personally witness Maya's condition, which is the direct result of Ben Weyts' refusal to apply European and national animal welfare legislation correctly since October 2020 to free our Maya from her abusers. Maya didn't even have the strength to stand up. Els Sterckx has promised to investigate Maya's case thoroughly and do all she can to make sure there will never have to be another Maya again.

Els Sterckx was also devastated when she saw the pictures and video's of Luna, another victim of Ben Weyts' failing dienst Dierenwelzijn. This  darling was abused for years and locked up in a closet - again, police and Dierenwelzijn knew about it but did nothing about it - and didn't survive the hell it had to go through.

Pet owners whose dog or cat also got stolen or falsely registered in dogID or catID - even foreign pet owners - can now contact her at els.sterckx@vlaamsparlement.be. Likewise, if you know of an animal that has been abused or neglected and neither police or Ben Weyt's dienst Dierenwelzijn take appropriate action to help this animal, you can now report it to Els Sterckx.
