NO MORE SHORT TERM RENTALS IN OUR COMMUNITY

Update: All in favor, NO more short term rental permits for homes throughout Maui until we can provide more affordable housing for locals.

SHORT TERM RENTAL NEGATIVES

 • It’s an intrusion to the Hawaiian community, life, and values.

• It impacts individuals and families within our island communities and shoreline residents.

• It benefits only a small percentage and impacts a greater percentage negatively

• It opens doors for investors to purchase multiple homes with the sole purpose of weekend rentals.

• It creates a potential for “hotel strips” to open up shop in the middle of residential neighborhoods.

• Such areas are not zoned or intended for such “commercial” enterprise.

I support the approach to regulate SHORT TERM RENTALS, the implications of this data in light of the local rental housing context and the county's housing goals, conclude that the growth of Short term rentals is an obstacle to the islands's housing goals, which include the protection of existing rental stock and ensuring that people of all incomes and ages can afford to live here.

Original Petition: The Planning Commission will consider TWO different bills relating to short term rentals in Pa'ia & Ha'iku.

Here's the gist: The Pa'ia/Ha'iku Community Plan says that only owner-occupied BnB's are allowed, and none near the shoreline. The Maui County Code however, allows for 88 short term rental permits to be issued in the same area. Conflicting rules, so the planning commission gets to chime in and recommend which one to follow.

Which one do you support?

Amending the Community Plans to allow for vacation rentals?
OR
Amending the County Code to prohibit new vacation rentals?

You can send your thoughts/testimonies to: planning@mauicounty.gov or you can testify in person at 250 S. High St. Wailuku in the basement.

This petition is for all who say NO MORE SHORT TERM RENTALS in our community until our more housing become available for locals.
