Maui County government has created a new committee called the Human Concerns and Parks committee . The purpose of this Thursday committee meeting is to assess the need for pickleball, tennis and basketball here on Maui. The Thursday Oct. 21st meeting at 1:30 pm is open to anyone who wants to give their input on the subject. We need all pickleball players to participate in this virtual (online) meeting and give their input to support pickleball......(see below)
To all those who love pickleball and want to support and advance our sport on Maui, please give testimony at the: Maui County Human Concerns and Parks Committee meeting on Thursday, Oct 21 at 1:30 pm.
The committee is made up of 5 Maui County Council members. The director of Maui County Parks and Recreation Dept, Karla Peters will also be at the meeting.,
You can give testimony in one of three ways:1) written testimony, 2) phone testimony, or 3) video testimony.
1. For Written testimony- Written testimony must be submitted via the ecomment link by Wed Oct 20 at 12 noon. Using this method, you also attach photos, videos, or diagrams (using Ecomment link). To do this go to: http://mauicounty.us/agendas/
Then scroll down to the Human Concerns and Parks Committee site, locate, and click the following sections listed to the side: Ecomment link (for written testimony) and agenda (for phone and video testimony.instructions)
2. For Phone testimony. You just call the number provided in the meeting agenda, enter the code provided, and when you are called upon, state your name and start talking! Very easy! (you will be on the phone conversation, but no video with this method).
3. For Video testimony, Maui County uses BLUEJEANS Video Conferencing (very similar to zoom video conferencing). You do not need a BLUEJEANS account to attend the meeting. On the agenda, you enter the link provided and it places you in the meeting. .
I would recommend writing a summary of your talking points so you can practice your speech before speaking. Feel free to submit both written and phone and/or video forms of testimony. For phone or video testimony you are allotted 3 minutes of time.
Do you want some great tips on reading an agenda or giving testimony? Check out the new Maui County Civic Engage Video Series at: http://mauicounty.us/resources/video-series/ Go to parts 3 and 4
In a meeting last July with the Maui County Parks and Recreation Dept with our Maui pickleball ambassadors, we were advised that the Maui County Human Concerns and Parks Committee needs to hear from the entire Maui pickleball community! So please speak up and do your part and unite in this struggle to get more pickleball courts and to repair existing ones or to share any other concerns or issues.
