Your voices have created a groundswell of awareness and compassion across North Carolina and beyond. Because of you, this movement is no longer just about policy—it’s about people, purpose, and a promise to protect every roadside worker in our state.

We are especially grateful to the members of the media who have helped elevate this cause with professionalism and empathy. Your coverage has honored the memory of those we lost—including Matthew Jon Lockwood, Douglas Garland Sides, Madison Carter, and William Evans—and given strength to the survivors and families still healing.

This legislation continues to grow stronger with your support. Thanks to your feedback, we’ve expanded the bill to:

Mandate better technology and hard barrier protections in high-risk zones
Provide financial relief and trauma counseling to affected families
Enforce harsher penalties for reckless drivers in work zones
Create the Mattie Medal to honor fallen and heroic roadside workers
Ensure that whistleblowers and frontline workers have a voice in safety decisions
And most importantly, prevent future tragedies like the one in Eden
