MA Representatives to vote Against Bill S.490

Animal Adventures, a family run small business and part of the Bolton community for 20 years, can potentially be shut down if Bill S.490 passes in the state house.
Animal Adventures currently has state licensing and passes all of their USDA inspections without any major violations in all its years of operation. No one cares more for their animals and the well-being of them, then owner and operators Ed and Brenda Laquidara. The AZA is an independent accrediting organization for many of the largest zoos and aquariums in America, assuring they meet the highest standards. However, as a small family run business, it isn't financially possible for the Laquidara's to afford the tens' of thousands of dollars it would cost to get the added AZA accreditation. The AZA accreditation is designed for the largest zoos and aquariums that are owned and run by boards of directors not directly involved with the care of their animals as Animal Adventures is. This bill as worded affects long-running, upstanding operations like Animal Adventures who don't have a large amount of money required to get AZA accreditation. Any extra money they have is spent on the Animals, as they continue to be licensed by the USDA. The bill should be reworded to protect small businesses like Animal Adventures who have never had any issues with the state licensing and can't afford the high-priced accreditation.
Ed and Brenda Laquidara have spent their entire lives working with animals, from farm animals to exotics. In 1997, Ed and Brenda turned their hobby of caring for animals into a full-time professional animal education facility. Animal Adventures is located in Bolton, Massachusetts. They take in exotic animals that are no longer able to be kept by their current owners. The animals that come into the facility are either kept at Animal Adventures and used for educational programs or are placed at other animal facilities. Animal Adventures delivers thousands of educational programs throughout New England each year.
