As of January 25, 2023, the East Side Access project in New York City is now complete connecting the Long Island Railroad to Grand Central Terminal, allowing the glorious Grand Central Station to be shared by both Long Island Railroad and Metro North Railroad, and allowing the Long Island Railroad to bypass New York Penn Station.

That being said, if New York City can build the East Side Access, Boston can definitely build the North South Rail Link. It would mean the world to every resident of Boston and the vicinity, and it would mean the world to the city council, the FRA, and the Department of Transportation.
