Information about the Boston City Council Committee on Government Operations Hearing on Docket #1373 and opportunities to testify this Thursday, 9/28/23:

Docket #1373 is "an ordinance to support public safety as the City doubles down on [our] public health-led approach to the crises of mental health, substance use, and unsheltered homelessness concentrated in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard." Per the ordinance, sponsored by Mayor Wu, it "will establish a prohibition against unsanctioned use of tents, tarps, and similar structures on public property and in the public way..." and "Boston police would have the authority to enforce on the condition that individuals are offered shelter and transportation to services, as well as storage for personal belongings." 


The hearing will be held on Thursday, September 28th at 10:00 AM in Iannella Chamber, 5th floor, Boston City Hall, One City Hall Square, Boston, MA 022201, and virtually. The public may watch this hearing via live stream at boston.gov/city-council-tv. Members of the public can testify in-person, virtually, and/or submit written testimony. Written comments may be sent to Christine or the Committee (ccc.go@cityofboston.gov) and will be made a part of the record and available to all Councilors.
