Breaking News for The Beach & Toronto!

This could be what we need to stop the city consenting on Oct 5 to give our beaches away yet again (until 2028, to be exact) in another behind-the-scenes deal. A significant discovery has been made. The Sheriff for the City of Toronto has filed a lien against TUGGS INC, the tenant, over all the restaurants, concessions stands, parking spaces, and our beautiful Beach parks. WHAT DOES THE LIEN MEAN? The WRIT (found in the link below) binds all the lands and interests of TUGGS over our public space. It is for unpaid taxes in the amount of $150,042.08. It clearly violates the lease. The lease says that the tenant must pay all its taxes. The tenant has been in default for over a year (March 25, 2015). The city CANNOT CONSENT to assign the lease on October 5, 2016. A tenant in default is not in a position to request that the city and the taxpayers provide an indulgence (which would be granting consent). The city should not assist the tenant to benefit from non-payment of its taxes. The city should not be complicit in assisting an execution debtor to defeat the Ontario Ministry of Revenue for unpaid taxes.
