Thank you to everyone who has signed our petition to save Kirk Hill!

We have been working hard to save Kirk Hill Ridge Old Growth forest!  Cottonwood Law sued the Forest Service due to their failure to consider the implications of climate change for this and other logging plans - such as the need to leave old growth forest standing to store carbon. Unfortunately the judge failed to grant an injunction against the logging.

Logging is slated to begin some time this summer or fall in Bozeman Creek (on City of Bozeman land)  and possibly on Kirk Hill Ridge.

We are also appealing to the Bozeman City Commission to not endorse the planned logging since it will do little to prevent fires or protect city water but will result in lots of new roads and stumps.

Meanwhile fires are burning across the West and the air is fill with smoke. Many of those fires such as the Bootleg in Oregon are burning in heavily logged and managed forests. Old growth forests are cooler and wetter and do not burn as easily.

Go see for yourself! Kirk Hill Ridge is still a beautiful and peaceful place withy big old trees.

Meanwhile please email Custer Gallatin Forest Supervisor Mary Erickson and protest the Bozeman Municipal Watershed Project, and specifically the planned logging and road building on Kirk Hill Ridge.  mary.erickson@usda.gov
