As you may have heard, Maroon 5 is having trouble finding a partner to perform with them during the Super Bowl halftime show.

According to Variety (who interviewed frontman Adam Levine a few weeks ago), Maroon 5 has reached out to a half-dozen acts to join them on stage. Everyone has said no. This includes Cardi B and Andre 3000, from the group Outkast which is based in Atlanta, the city holding the Super Bowl.

These artists have said no because “no one wants to associate themselves with the NFL” due to their response of Colin Kaepernick’s stance protesting racial police brutality towards people of color. In other words, THIS PETITION AND YOUR SIGNATURES ARE MAKING AN IMPACT!

We still ask Maroon 5 to do what’s best: Step down from the halftime show.

To Maroon 5, here’s a solution: Perform at another network during that same time (counter-programming). If word spreads, that Super Bowl audience will watch your performance. That’s exactly what In Living Color did back in 1992 (which directly caused the NFL to switch their halftime shows to what it is today). Plus, never forget that the NFL needs YOU more than you need them — due to ratings.

And most importantly: IF THE NFL OFFERS TO PAY FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE, PLEASE DECLINE! THAT GOES FOR ANY OTHER ARTIST CONSIDERING TAKING THAT STAGE. The cause is more important than the potential publicity of your performance. Your fans will respect you even more.
