Add the "barf" (disgust) reaction to Facebook

The Issue

Facebook's recent expansion of reactions from a simple "Like" response to a broader array of emotional responses (love, sadness, anger, surprise) was a significant step towards building more dynamic interactions across their online community. However, the current options fail to include a key choice among what psychologists refer to as the "primary" or "basic" emotions (see: Ekman, Friesen). This emotion, as natural and universal as love or anger, is disgust. With events in the news and/or current political campaigns frequently inspiring various degrees of disgust, we propose the following reaction be added permanently to the list of reaction choices: "Barf".

The "Barf" reaction (depicted as a typical yellow emoji face, barfing) will allow Facebook users to express that a news story, status update, or link makes them want to barf. We've all been there. "Angry" and "Wow" don't quite capture the same meaning expressed by "Barf".

The time for Barf is now.
