Meat packaging to include images of animal slaughter

Meat packaging to include images of animal slaughter

The issue

Similar to the adoption of pictorial health warnings on tobacco products in 2006, I am seeking to have the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code changed so that meat products must be labeled with images of the harm these products cause across the following groups:

1. the animals (images of slaughter and of the animals living conditions)

2. the purchaser (images of the effects of heart disease, cancer, diabetes)

3. the environment (images that raise awareness of the high levels of methane omissions, and the excessive water usage involved in meat production)
