Here is the email I sent to the Office of the President, which included the petition:

“Hi again,

I think I and many other students would appreciate a statement from the President and Security regarding the recent burglaries on campus, something past just telling students to make sure our doors are locked. We keep hearing about “increased security measures” but nobody has taken the time to make a statement to the entire student body to tell us what those measures are/will be. One of my best friends had her house robbed over break and the entire ordeal has been awful to watch her deal with, especially the part about her underwear being stolen.

I think I and many other students would appreciate more than just a few increased patrols on campus.

We should have night vision cameras installed outside of residence areas to catch the person who did this if they come back again, which they might considering this has happened twice already. I think we would all appreciate a better alarm system in our dorms/houses to alert security and the police if we see something going on. Another issue is that a lot of people have broken or flimsy windows in their houses, which is how these burglars keep getting in.

It is unacceptable that one robbery happened on campus, let alone two. I think what I and others would like to know is how security will be better the next time around. Christmas break is coming up, and a lot of people I know are scared to leave anything in their rooms because of the burglaries.

I have already sent the petition I started regarding this issue, which already has over 200 signatures. Here is the link again in case you didn’t receive it:

While I would not mind a phone call from Security, I think a more widespread statement regarding the college’s actions on these robberies would be appreciated by many students, not just me.
