Z 2022-29 Beazer Homes zoning/annexation to be heard Wed Jan 11 City Council

The 175 acre zoning/annexation of Beazer Homes into the City of Marietta is scheduled to be heard by Marietta City Council on January 11. Wednesday at 7 pm at City Hall, 205 Lawrence St.

This is the Montgomery property, once Rockridge Nature Preserve off Laura Lake Rd and Bells Ferry.

The zoning application is for 596 homes with two access points on Bells Ferry. It is estimated to generate 4,600 vehicles trips daily when built.

The County acquired Laura Lake and 61 acres to rebuild the dam in 2020.

The City of Marietta Planning staff has some serious criticisms of the plan.  The Marietta Planning Commission deadlocked on December 6 with a 3-3 vote and with no recommendation to City Council.  Cobb County has not been successful in getting the City Attorney to negotiate zoning stipulations or to slow the case down for improvements to the plan.  The Georgia DCA was unable to put together a panel for arbitration in the 15 day time limit due to the holiday time frame.

This is a deeply flawed site plan on the largest undeveloped tract left east of I 75 in Cobb. IF you have not already signed the petition please sign, and ask your family, friends and neighbors to sign as well. If possible, please plan to attend the Wednesday evening meeting to show your concern.

Please join in the effort to slow this down and improve the plan.

Thank you
